In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true either is true or becomes true.

This graphic shows a matter wave hitting a Schrodinger’s hat. The wave inside the container is magnified. Outside, the waves wrap as if they had never encountered any obstacle. Credit: G. Uhlmann, U. of Washington (via Mathematicians can conjure matter waves inside an invisible hat)
Invisibility, once the subject of magic or legend, is slowly becoming reality. Over the past five years mathematicians and other scientists have been working on devices that enable invisibility cloaks – perhaps not yet concealing Harry Potter, but at least shielding small objects from detection by microwaves or sound waves.

Family Relationships of the Eight Trigrams

The diagram above show the eight I Ching trigrams along with their family relationship and traditional compass direction (in the Earlier Heaven sequence.) The K’un trigram (Earth), being completely Yin, is referred to as the Mother trigram. The Chien trigram (Heaven) is completely Yang so it is the Father trigram. For the remaining six trigrams, one with only a single Yin line is female (a daughter), whereas a trigram with only one Yang line is male (a son).
Just as the relationships between quarks, antiquarks, electrons, positrons, and neutrinos are of fundamental importance in particle physics, we will see in time that the family relationships of trigrams in the I Ching are similarly of great importance. These trigram relationships, which may at first seem arbitrary and trite, have huge implications which I cannot stress enough. More about this later.

Nanodevice Manufacturing Strategy Using DNA 'Building Blocks'

Researchers at the Wyss Institute have developed a method for building complex nanostructures out of short synthetic strands of DNA. Called single-stranded tiles (SSTs), these interlocking DNA “building blocks,” akin to Legos®, can be programmed to assemble themselves into precisely designed shapes, such as letters and emoticons. Further development of the technology could enable the creation of new nanoscale devices, such as those that deliver drugs directly to disease sites.
